If you're reading this article right now you are probably looking for some simple, easy steps to care for your new dog. It doesn't matter if he/she is an adorable puppy or a loving old doggie who just needs some love and care this article is here to help.

== Steps ==

=== Safety First ===

# Identify your dog.

#* External identification: Make sure to purchase a collar as soon as you can since no matter how careful you are dogs can still get on the loose. You can buy one in many different styles and colors but make sure you get one that fits nice and snug; preferably one that fits two fingers. Have the correct information; the dog's name and your cell number for people to contact you in the case he/she gets lost.

#* Microchip Identification: In the case your dog gets lost and the collar comes off it is important to get a microchip placed by the vet. Then if someone returns the dog to the vet they can easily find s/his owner.

# Vaccinate your dogs acoording to the local laws. This is extremely important to prevent rabies in your dog.

# Even with all the requirements it is still important to keep your dog on a leash while outside your home or fenced yard. This will do good for the community and your dog.

# Spay or neurter your dog. Due to doggie overpopulation this is a very important part of owning a dog. If s/he isn't already add to the list of things to do as soon as you can.

# If your doggie is a rebel consider enrolling him/her in a training class. This will be great to have some bonding time while teaching him to be a good dog. This is also a good way to control him around children if he tends to be scary sometimes. Basically you are being a safe dog owner by doing this.

=== All You Need is Love ===

# Hang with your pup. Yes, it is good for a dog to spend some time in the backyard but you need to let him come inside and interact with you at some point. Even if there's a doghouse he still needs to be part of the family.

# Dogs are known as one of the most loyal companion a human could ever have and you need to give that gift right back to him. Never give up on your pup. All he needs is some proper care and love to do great things.

=== Health ===

# Food and water. I highly recommend asking your vet for some ideas on healthy food choices, just make sure to feed him two times daily. It is also very important to have fresh, cool water available at all times.

# Check-ups. I would recommend going to the vet regularly to keep up on your doggie's health.

# Exercise. Most of the time two walks everyday is enough to keep your pup happy and healthy. As stated above your dog should always have a leash on while walking her.
